The Heyday of the Arcade.

Murals depict the heyday of the Arcade Building – Canaday’s Drugs, Ranchland Clothing Store, the military presence in Fort Pierce and much more.

Eye-catching murals envelope the outside of the building (on the north & west) and create a sense of nostalgia for many. These murals depict the heyday of the Arcade Building – Canaday’s Drugs, Ranchland Clothing Store, the military presence in Fort Pierce and much more. The Historic Arcade Building was built in 1926 and served as the shopping mecca for the entire region as a forerunner to the modern shopping mall. It was the largest commercial building in Fort Pierce. The block also included Anne’s Diner, which was a popular place for local businessmen and politicians to meet and the 3-story Masonic Temple.

Still Standing.

Survived a fire in the 1950’s, but another more serious fire in the 1980’s shut it down until 2002.

The Arcade Building survived a fire in the 1950’s, but another more serious fire in the 1980’s shut it down until 2002. Bob Brackett who had completed amazing renovation projects throughout the area took on the daunting project of renovating this former landmark. It all came together in 2002 when the “new” Arcade Building opened for business once again. It features wonderful retail space on the first floor, and it has very nice office space on the second floor as well as in an adjacent three-story building at the northwest corner of the complex. The structure is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
